ON GOING is part of a series of videos in which the artist confronts and traverses immense landscapes, surveying and measuring them with his own body. The main movement of this video-performance, filmed on a volcanic island in the Greek Dodecanese, is a circular run. The artist literally goes around in circles. But as it is the enormous perimeter of a crater, it gives the impression of a straight line. This confrontation with oneself and with the landscape is filmed through the eye of a drone: the distance from the human subject is so great that there is never any empathic relationship. The human thus becomes a detail within an unmappable nature.Thinking of the fate of Sisyphus as a metaphor for the current state of humanity, which is unable to change its habits, what does it take for a gesture to be transformed? How long will we go around in circles before escaping? This being in his simplest form seems to be pursued as a target and suddenly the scene becomes strange, even disturbing. What happened before?
