There is a part of the biblical story of The Fall that is never really told. It is the beginning of Genesis 4 that is omitted.  The story goes like this, Adam and Eve sin –it isn’t only the apple business but the other thing too– God hears, they are expelled from Paradise. Were they ashamed? They were furious. Once out of Paradise they spend days arguing about whose fault it was. He said it was her fault, she said she had only contemplated the possibility but had never intended to do it, he said she had wanted it, she said he had forced her.

Adam, impersonating God, had said it’s unforgivable. Eve had said leave me alone. And left alone she was. They took separate paths, and they erred for centuries before being accidentally reunited for the biblical story to continue with the procreation myth.

Certain commentators of the biblical story consider Eve’s wandering still in progress.

LE PRINCIPE (The principle) is a film in three chapters recounting an alternative version of the story of Eve. According to this version Adam and Eve separated after the Fall, and wandered for centuries each on their own. The film follows Eve after her expulsion from paradise, into centuries we could identify as the middle ages. She starts her journey naked and finds objects along her journey. The seasons change, and so does the landscape.  Her wandering seems endless yet she persists.

The story of Eve, one of the founding fictions of humanity and an essential one for female identity is retold differently and this time filmed by a drone. This technical specificity adds a strange aura to the film. I was interested indeed in filming an old story in a very new way.
