Femme historique avec gueule d’artiste (Historical woman with artists face) is an edition of four busts. The artist was molded in silicone which was then topped with plaster. From this mold two editions in faience and two in porcelain stoneware ensued, they were fired only once. The bust bears a striking resemblance to classic art, especially marble busts of prominent figures. However the extreme detail of the eyelids brows and lips that lend it an uncanny quality complicates the historical reading. As does its expression of unspoken torment, there is a mortuary tone to this female figure at rest. The interplay between the broken portraits and the whole ones brings to mind an aesthetics of trauma. This self portrait of the artist as a prominent figure (which women of the time rarely were) is also a sort of historical revision or at least an effort to insert oneself in a historical narrative.
